Teaching is the Core (TITC): In 2014-15, NYSED awarded approximately $9.2 million to school districts across New York State for the purposes of reducing non-essential tests that do not contribute to teaching and learning, and strengthening local assessment practices by reviewing, identifying, improving, and/or developing high-quality assessments.
- Two examples of TITC grant participation were captured at Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES and Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES:
- As part of TITC, NYSED partnered with Dr. Susan M. Brookhart to create a series of webinars that focused on the goals of TITC. These webinars include tutorials on: The Assessment Review Process, Performance Assessment, Test Construction, Action Plan and Professional Development, Rubrics and other Scoring Methods.
- Part of TITC was a commitment to sharing the assessment review results and action plan. The following district websites are provided here as examples of what awardees shared with their communities.
- At the end of the grant period, awardees were asked to provide feedback on their experience with TITC. Survey results indicated a need for further resources on assessment fluency. The Assessment 101 initiative is largely a result of the feedback collected from the TITC survey. Detailed results from the survey are available below.
