Boy Asking Questions

In this lesson, students begin to develop their personal narratives, focusing on identifying a specific audience and purpose. Students first consider these elements and the impact they have on a text. Students discuss the task, audience, and purpose of The Autobiography of Malcolm X, Chapter 1. Finally, students draft a statement of purpose that demonstrates an awareness of task and audience for one of the Common Application prompts.
