Grade 5 ELA Module 1, Unit 2, Lesson 6


This lesson begins to introduce students to the idea of central metaphors (or symbols) in the novel. This purpose links directly to RL.4.4. For simplicity sake, there is just one anchor chart about “big metaphors” and themes. If appropriate for your students, feel free to introduce the more complex literary term “symbol” as well; this goes beyond the level of the fifth-grade standards.
